T-Orange/Or-ible Won’t Play Nice With Competitors

Those delightful folk at Orange and T-Mobile say that they won’t be handing over any radio spectrum when they merge, despite the fact that the resulting merged carrier will own almost half the available airways.

The combined might of T-Orange/Or-ible (from personal experience with both companies, the latter is more apt) will be licensed to operate in 170MHz of radio spectrum, compared to Oranges current holdings of 66Mhz.

Both companies COO’s haveĀ  told a conference that they see no reason why they should give up any of that lush spectrum just to please UK Regulator, Ofcom.

Until today there has been the understanding assumption that the merged company would release some of the vast chunk of spectrum so that companies such as 3 will have more available to them, compared to 3’s current pitiful amount of a mere 15Mhz.
