If you’re the kind of person that has £1.92 million down the back of the sofa and don’t yet already have an iPhone, then you’re in luck. Designer Stuart Hughes has come to the rescue with the wonderfully tacky iPhone 3GS Supreme.

He’s swapped that plastic white/black body for 22-carat solid gold and peppered it with a mere 190 diamonds. Rounding of this millionaires pap, is the box it comes in (dubbed for the rich as a “storage chest”), crafted from a single solid block of granite.

It’s now been on the shelves of America’s Walmart for a while now, and the time has now come for the iPhone to lower itself to a retailer’s shelves here in good old Blighty.

Don’t expect Tesco Value on tariffs though, as the Tesco Mobile service is provided by O2, who this month lost their iPhone exclusivity.

As for a time scale, all we have to go on is that the supermarket will introduce the iPhone 3G and 3GS into its retail operation “shortly”.

You can go register your interest over on Tesco’s website.

Thanks to those wonderful guys over at XDA-Developers.com, you can enable wireless N on your new HD2.

Apparently, the HD2 already has a 802.11n chip in it, but for reasons unknown to us, it was disabled by default.

The fix is simple, find the registry key HKLM/Comm/BCMSDDHD1/Parms/11nModeDisable and change it from 1 to 0. Voila! Wireless N on your HD2. Rumours are that it also increases your cellular data speed.

XDA-Developers have some other useful hacks, tips and tricks if you’re lucky enough to be a HD2 owner here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638

Neither T-Mobile or Orange will be relinquishing their share of spectrum.

Those delightful folk at Orange and T-Mobile say that they won’t be handing over any radio spectrum when they merge, despite the fact that the resulting merged carrier will own almost half the available airways.

The combined might of T-Orange/Or-ible (from personal experience with both companies, the latter is more apt) will be licensed to operate in 170MHz of radio spectrum, compared to Oranges current holdings of 66Mhz.

A vaguely spectrum related image

Both companies COO’s have told a conference that they see no reason why they should give up any of that lush spectrum just to please UK Regulator, Ofcom.

Until today there has been the understanding assumption that the merged company would release some of the vast chunk of spectrum so that companies such as 3 will have more available to them, compared to 3’s current pitiful amount of a mere 15Mhz.

A few things to look out for this holiday season.

In an attempt to raise consumer awareness about the threats out there this holiday season, security experts McAfee revealed a list affectionately dubbed “The 12 Scams of Christmas” in an interview with CNET’s Larry Magid. The Scams range from e-cards that deliver malware instead of cheer to fake charities that steal your money and your identity.

So as reported, here’s the list:

Charitable phishing scams: Marcus warns consumers to be wary of e-mails that appear to be from legitimate charities. Not only will they take your money and deprive charities of needed funds, but they will also steal your credit card information and identity.

Fake invoices from delivery services: During this period, scammers will send out fake invoices and delivery notifications appearing to come from Federal Express, UPS, the U.S. Postal Service or even the U.S. Customs Service saying that they were unable to deliver a package to your address. They ask you to confirm your address and give them credit card information to pay for delivery.

Social networking friend requests: Bad guys take advantage of this social time of year by sending out authentic looking friend requests via e-mail. Marcus recommends that you not click on those links but sign into Facebook and other services and look for friend requests from the site itself. Clicking on a link could install malware on your computer or trick you into revealing your password.

Holiday e-cards: Be careful before clicking on a holiday e-card, especially if it’s from a site you haven’t heard of. This is a way to deliver malware, pop-ups, and other forms of unwanted advertising. Some fake e-cards will look like they come from Hallmark or other legitimate companies, so pay close attention and make sure it’s from someone you know. If you’re going to send an e-card, be sure you’re dealing with a reputable service lest you risk infecting yourself and your friends.

Fake “luxury” jewelry: If you see an offer for luxury gifts from companies like Cartier, Gucci, and Tag Heuer at a price that’s too good to be true, it probably isn’t true. These links could lead you to malware and take your money or merchandise that will probably never arrive (or be fake if it does). Some of these sites, according to McAfee, even display the logos of the Better Business Bureau.

Practice safe holiday shopping. Make sure your wireless network is secure and be sure you’re shopping on sites that are secure. Though it isn’t an iron clad guarantee, you should look for the lock icon in the lower right corner of your browser and make sure the Web page starts with https. The “s” stands for “secure.”

Christmas carol lyrics can be dangerous: Bad guys know that people are searching for holiday related sites for music, holiday graphics, and other festive media. During this time, they create fraudulent holiday related sites.

Job search related scams: With the unemployment rate at 10.2 percent, there are plenty of job seekers looking for work. Beware of online offers for high paying jobs or at-home money making schemes. Some of these sites ask for money up front, which is a good way for criminals not only to steal your “set up fee” but misuse your credit card too. Marcus said that some “get rich quick” sites are all about money laundering, asking you to accept an inbound financial transfer and pay them.

Auction site fraud: McAfee has observed a rise in fake auction sites during the holidays. Make sure you’re actually going to eBay or whatever site you plan to deal with.

Password stealing scams: Criminals use low-cost tools to uncover passwords, in some cases planting key logger software to record keystrokes. Once they get your passwords, they gain access to bank accounts and credit card accounts and send spam from your e-mail accounts.

E-mail banking scams: A common type of phishing scam is sending out official looking e-mails that appear to come from your bank. Don’t click on any links but type in your bank’s Web address manually if you need to access your account.

Files for ransom: Hackers use malware to gain control of your computer and lock your data files. To access your own data you have to pay them ransom.

The beta companion to the next major update of the desktop flavour was made available on November 18th.

Office 2010 is getting a huge update in the mobile stakes too. The beta companion to the next major update of the desktop flavour was made available on November 18th.

It’s a pretty major overhaul thanks in part to the new and dare we say it, pretty comprehensive WYSIWYG editing capability in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

There’s a couple of nice new features too, in the form of SharePoint Workspace Mobile enabling you to manage your Office documents off your office’s servers and a new Bluetooth feature in PowerPoint that allows you to use your handset as a second screen by showing you your slide notes in real time while running a presentation off your PC.

You can download it now for free from the Windows Marketplace, but don’t expect anything if you’re using WinMo 6.0 or 6.1 as it’s not going to be backwards compatible even for the retail release.

Dynamic Controls have raised the curtain on the new iPhone application it has built to aid people who use a wheelchair on a daily basis. The app connects to the users wheelchair via Bluetooth and has the ability to run a diagnostic on the chair to detect any potential issues with it. Not only that but the user is able to control the chair itself from the application, get real-time information, speed information, and compass data.

Obviously, it’ll also be available for the iPod Touch.
